Season 2007-08

1st's - 13th Oct - Oldham Ladies 1st 5-1 Manchester Uni 2nd

2nd's - 7th Oct - Oldham Ladies 2nd 1-0 Didsbury Greys 3rds

2nd's - ? - Oldham Ladies 2nd 2 v 1 Tameside 1st

The game started much like the last one with Oldham making it difficult for themselves when it came to sorting out marking, but after about 10 minutes they began to settle into the game. It was a pretty evenly matched first half with the ball spending some time on both ends of the pitc, however no-one could capitalise on any of the chances causing the score at half time to be 0-0.

After the usual half time talk from Kevin, Oldham went back onto the pitch positively knowing they could still capitalise on the game if given the chance. Shortly into the first half Karen managed to slip one past the goalkeeper making the scoreline 1-0. This seemed to motivate Tameside to battle even harder and consequently for most of the remainder of the match Oldham were on the back foot. With some great defensive work and some excellent saves from Chad Oldham managed to hold onto the one goal lead until late in the second half.

Inevitably through the amount of pressure Tameside put on the back lines meant that they managed to level the score to 1-1. Even with the score level again, Oldham didn't let their heads drop and continued to battle hard. With only a few minutes left in the match a great clearance from the Oldham defence fell straight into the path of Gill Lord who was stood on the halfway line. From there she managed to travel the remainder of the pitch and place the ball into the bottom corner of the Tameside goal giving Oldham the lead yet again. With little time left Tameside didn't manage to re-level the scores and so the end result was 2-1 to Oldham.

All in all it wasn't our best performance and there are a few things we need to work on but hopefully we will get stronger as the season progresses.

2nd's - Sun 15th Sept - Oldham Ladies 2nd 1 v 1 Fearns 2nd

Well the 2nd's were out and raring to go, there was a great team atmosphere and despite taking a good 10 mins to settle, the first half was played really well. Great first performances from Sue and Hannah which resulted in a great goal by Lordy (celebrated in true Michael Jackson style).

The second half saw Fearns come out really strong and we had to dig our heels in. Great come back games for Karen who defended brilliantly and Tracy who did some great positional work.

Dispite conceeding a second half goal we were kept in the game because of Amanda's fantastic goalkeeping (first call when Chad's away!!!!!) A good first game performance by all.

1st's - Sun 15th Sept - Bolton Ladies Hockey Club 1st 0 v 3 Oldham Ladies 1st

The first match of the season saw Oldham travel to Bolton early on a Sunday morning. With Rowley's washing drying nicely, we did our best to follow Steve up the motorway to start our campaign.

The match started well for Oldham with a fairly well organised defence thanks to Yvonne, who slipped seamlessly into Silky's role at the back. Pressure on the Bolton defence increased steadily throughout the first half with rewards coming just before half time with a penalty stroke awarded, which Josie coolly converted.

After a quick team talk, Oldham continued positively in the second half earning themselves several short corners following some good passages of play. The second goal came from some accurate quick passing from defence to attack culminating in a well taken finish.

The young Bolton keeper did well to keep out further attempts on goal but could do nothing about Oldham's third which again finished another good team move. End result, a well deserved 3-0!
